What We Do For You

We Hear You
There are many causes that contribute to hearing loss, either singly or in combination. At Desert Sounds we have a sophisticated array of scientific resources to help us investigate the cause of your loss, but we always begin with a procedure that everyone understands. We listen to you, gathering information about past and present issues that could affect your hearing. We look at your history of ear infections and other medical conditions, surgeries or medications that may affect your hearing. Keeping you informed every step of the way, we then administer state-of-the-art audiological tests that help us assess the possible cause, or causes, of your hearing loss or balance problem.

Hearing Tests
We perform thorough hearing tests for newborns to patients over 100 years of age. Tests that we have available to help you include:
  • Case History
  • Otoscopic Evaluation
  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflexes and Acoustic Reflex Decay
  • Distortion Product or Transient Product Otoacoustic Emissions
  • Air and Bone Conduction Thresholds
  • Speech Reception Thresholds and Word Recognition
  • High Frequency Pure Tone
Balance Tests
The hearing and balance mechanisms are connected and sometimes disorders of the hearing system can cause balance or dizziness issues. The tests we employ to help us determine the cause, or causes, or your balance or dizziness problems include:
  • Videonystagmography (VNG)
  • Electronystagmogram (ENG)
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP)
  • ECOG Testing (Electrocochelography)
  • Sensory Organization Performance Test (SOPT)
  • Dynamic Visual Acuity Tests
Tinnitus Assessments
  • Questionnaires
  • Tinnitus Pitch and Loudness Matching*
  • Masking Levels and Residual Inhabituation**
*Pitch and loudness - trying to match the sound and the loudness level of the sound that the patient hears.

**How loud we have to make a sound for the tinnatus not to be heard. Residual inhabituation is how long the tinnatius is either reduced or gone after listening to a masking noise.

We Treat You Right
After your evaluation results, Dr. Sadowsky or other staff audiologists will counsel you regarding your treatment options so that, together, you can decide on the ones that fit your lifestyle and budget. Desert Sounds offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs that may involve:

• Hearing Aids We prescribe, fit and dispense hearing aids - but that's only the beginning. Then we follow up with tests and assessments to make sure your hearing aid is giving you the benefits you need. Working with top manufacturers, we offer a wide range of hearing aids to fit our patients' levels of hearing loss, dexterity, memory, need for noise reduction, style and price. For patients who could not previously benefit from hearing aids, due to high frequency hearing loss, we have technology to provide better clarity.

• Assistive Listening Devices Assistive Listening Devices are for patients who have problems hearing in limited situations, for patients who can't use a hearing aid and for patients who have hearing aids or cochlear implants and need more assistance to help them hear on the phone, in group or noisy situations. Assistive Listening Devices include vibrating alarm clocks with flashing lights, amplified doorbell ringer, amplified phone signaler, television devices, strobe alerting devices, amplified phones, personal listening devices, FM systems, etc.

• Cochlear Implants A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing. Cochlear implants are recommended when patients no longer benefit from hearing aids. We are trained to determine cochlear implant candidacy, to fit the microphone and speech processor and to activate and program the implant - known as implant mapping services. Candidates will be referred to a local otologist for surgical determination.
